How Business Console Uses Parametric Indexes

Business Console uses parametric indexes to refine the selection of documents in a search. For example, create draft taxonomies such as Color, Year, and Location. The draft taxonomy, Color, contains the categories red and black. The second taxonomy, Year, contains the categories 1989 and 1994. The third taxonomy, Location, contains the categories California, Florida, and New York.

Suppose you have a collection with documents that contains the fields for color, year, and collection, you might have the following documents.

Document

Color

Year

Location

D1

Red

1989

California

D2

Black

1994

Florida

D3

Red

1989

New York

You can create a topic for the category Red that matches all documents in the collection with the color field of red. Similarly, create a topic for category 1989 to match all documents with the year field of 1989. Associate the same parametric index, Pi1, to both taxonomies. Browsing Pi1 with your search application displays the following results.

Colors (3)

Red (2)
Black (1)

and

Year (3)

1989 (2)
1994 (1)

If you search for a black 1994 car, the parametric index refines the search to display only D2 in the results.
