Menus

Business Console menus are described in the following sections. You might not have access to all menu options depending on the role assigned to your user ID.

The main menus for Business Console include:

These menus are available in all Business Console modules. Other menus described in this section are available in individual modules, and the associated module is specified.

File Menu

The File menu choices include creating, opening and closing, accessing the administration panel, setting preferences, and exiting the application.

The File | New selections include:

Administration Window

File | Administration displays the administrator functionality for maintaining taxonomies, collections, promotions, and parametric indexes. For more information about the administrator tasks, see Administering Resources.

Setting Preferences

You can use the preferences dialog box to set your search preferences, including whether or not to use the Recommendation Engine, or which parser to use.



1. Click Reset to return preferences to the default settings. The following dialog box displays.



Choose the preferences to reset by selecting or clearing the check box for the following:

Window settings

Table columns

Search preferences and history

Custom filters

Subtaxonomy parameters

Click OK.

2. Choose whether or not to use the Recommendation Engine by selecting or clearing the check box.

3. Choose your default query parser. Parsers you can use are:

Simple

VQL (also referred to as the BooleanPlus parser)

Free Text (also referred to as the query-by-example or QBE parser)

Internet (also referred to as the Internet_Basic parser)

WYSIWYG (also referred to as the Internet_Advanced parser)

HTML (also referred to as the Internet_AdvancedWeb parser)

4. Click OK.

Window Menu

The Window menu lists the open windows in Business Console. You can use this menu to select the window you want to display. An example of the window menu might show the Summary window and an open taxonomy.



Help Menu

The Help menu contains menu items for the About box and Documentation.



Selecting About displays the version information for Business Console.

 



Selecting Documentation displays a browser window with the online version of this book.

 

View Menu (All Modules Except Application)

The View menu controls which view you are working in for the resource module. Access to the views is dependent on the module and your user role.



The different views enable you to see a resource in particular states. The following views are available:

Draft View—Displays the main working view. This view displays how you might want your specific module resource to appear after it is complete, approved, and published.

 

Filtered Draft View—Displays a draft view, filtered by preset or user-defined filters in the Filter menu. Selecting a filtered draft view, then selecting a filter, displays the corresponding categories. (Only available in the Taxonomy module.)

 

Published View—Displays the published nodes for a resource. Publishers can use this view to see previously published nodes.

 

Filters Menu (Taxonomy Module)

The Filters menu controls filtered views. You can set filters to view only those documents meeting certain requirements.



The following filters already exist in Business Console.

Inbox—Displays only those categories with some Inbox documents, and that can be edited by the user.

 

Workspace—Displays modified categories that are locked by and editable by the user.

 

Publish Requests—Displays modified categories that are locked by and publishable by the user.

 

Locked—Displays categories that are locked by the user.

 

Editable—Displays categories that are editable by the user.

 

Filters require an explicitly-defined user role. Administrators needing to use filters should also be added as publishers to the taxonomy.

Resources Menu (Taxonomy Module)

The Resources menu provides the open and close controls for resource taxonomies.



Taxonomy Right-Click Menu (Taxonomy Module)

Many actions on the taxonomy can be performed using the menu within the taxonomy pane. Use the right-click mouse action when your cursor is on a category to access this menu.



Actions are available based on your user role.

Refresh—Refresh the subcategories within the category.

 

Publish or Request Publish—Publish or request a publish for the category.

 

Edit—Lock the category to enable editing.

 

Release Edit Lock—Unlock the category.

 

Acquire Subtree Edit Locks—Locks the subtree for the selected category.

 

Release Subtree Edit Locks—Unlock the category and its subtree.

 

Add Child—Add a child node to the category.

 

Copy—Copy a category or a subtree.

 

Paste

 

as Reference—Create a reference category.

as Copy—Paste a copied subtree.

Mark for Deletion—Mark the category and its subcategories for deletion. Complete the deletion by publishing the marked category or categories.

 

Restore—Restore the deleted category. This action applies to individual categories only.

 

Rename—Rename the category. This action also applies to the root category.

 

Show References or Show Primary Category—Display the references for a specific category or selects the primary category for a reference category. The categories are displayed in a filtered draft view.

 

Synonym and Promotions Right-Click Menu

Many actions on the synonym or promotion group can be performed using the menu within the synonym or promotion pane. Use the right-click mouse action when your cursor is on a folder to access this menu.



Actions are available based on your user role.

Refresh—Refresh the selected folder and its subtree.

 

Publish or Request Publish—Publish or request a publish for the folder.

 

Edit—Lock the folder to enable editing.

 

Release Edit Lock—Unlock the folder.

 

Acquire Subtree Edit Locks—Locks the subtree for the selected folder.

 

Release Subtree Edit Locks—Unlock the folder and its subtree.

 

Add Folder—Add a folder.

 

Copy—Copy a folder or a subtree.

 

Paste—Paste a copied synonym or promotion set.

 

Mark for Deletion—Mark the folder and its subtree for deletion. Complete the deletion by publishing the marked folder.

 

Restore—Restore the deleted folder. This action applies to individual folders only.

 

Rename—Rename the folder. This action also applies to the root folder.

 

Filtered Draft Right-Click Menu (Taxonomy Module)

Actions from the categories pane menu alter if you have filters in use. You can use the toolbar or access the filtered draft right-click menu by using the right-click mouse action when your cursor is on a category. You must have a filter applied to view this menu.



The following actions are available based on category privileges.

Refresh—Refresh the category and its subcategories.

 

Edit—Lock the category to enable editing.

 

Release Edit Lock—Unlock the category.

 

Show in Draft View—Displays the draft view for that category.

 

Publish—Publish or request a publish of the category.

 

Published Right-Click Menu (Taxonomy Module)

Actions from the categories pane menu alter if you are in the published view. If you use the right-click mouse action when your cursor is on a category in the categories pane, you can perform the Refresh action.

Query Tree Right-Click Menu (Taxonomy and Synonym Modules)

A right-click menu is available in the taxonomy and synonym group modules when you are editing a query tree.



The following actions are available based on category privileges.

Add Child—Add a new node to the tree.

 

Add Link—Add a topic link to share rules from another topic.

 

Edit Node—Edit the selected node name.

 

Remove Subtree—Delete the selected subtree within the query tree.

 

Copy Subtree—Copy the selected subtree.

 

Paste Subtree—Paste the copied subtree into the location selected in the query tree.

 

Expand Subtree—Expand a collapsed subtree.

 

Collapse Subtree—Collapse an expanded subtree.
