Parametric Index Module FAQ

This section contains the FAQ for the parametric index module.

How would I rename a value?

To rename a value, open your parametric index and lock it for editing. Select the parameter. Select a value for that parameter. Click Rename and edit the name in the dialog box. Click OK. See Editing Custom Display Values for more information about renaming values.

How do I determine what type of parameter I should use?

The type of parameter you choose depends on the type of data in the collection field or XML element. See Using the Fields of a Collection for a list of the data types available. Choose the type that matches the data as closely as possible.

How would I map multiple parameter values to one value?

If your parameter has a type of string, you can map its values so that a single value contains many. See Editing Custom Display Values for information about how to perform this mapping.

How do I scrub data of a certain parameter in the parametric index module?

To scrub data, see Editing Custom Display Values.

How do I test my changes?

Test changes by clicking Generate Sample Data in the Choose Sample Values section. See Generating Sample Data for more details.

How can I use a taxonomy within a parametric index?

You can add a new parameter of type taxonomy. This taxonomy has to be a managed taxonomy within Business Console. See Understanding Parametric Index Associations for information about parametric indexes and their associations with taxonomies.

How do I separate my staging and published parametric indexes?

For information about deploying a production server, see the Verity Business Console Application Deployment Technical Note.

How do I create a promotion using my parametric index?

Create a promotion using a parametric selection rule. See Setting Parametric Selection Rules for the procedure on setting parametric selection rules.

How do I add this parametric index to an application?

To add a parametric index to an application, create a parametric index in Business Console, attach the index to your K2 Server, create a PIContext in your application, and add the parametric index to that PIContext. See the parametric index browsing tutorial in the Verity Component Framework Developer Guide to add a parametric index to an application.

How do I create an application to display this parametric index?

See the parametric index browsing tutorial in the Verity Component Framework Developer Guide to display a parametric index in an application.

How do I synchronize my parametric index with the taxonomy?

If you selected Automatically update on category publish when you created the taxonomy and associated a parametric index, the parametric index is updated whenever you publish the taxonomy. If you did not select this option, you must manually update the parametric index. See Repopulating a Parametric Index to perform the update. See Understanding Parametric Index Associations to understand why you might want to perform manual updates on your parametric indexes.

How do I format my XML so I can use a parametric index to populate through it?

See the information about configuring your XML mapping in Using an XML Data File. For more information about XML and parametric index mapping, see the Verity K2 Parametric Developer Guide.

How do I rebuild a parametric index after a collection changes?

See Repopulating a Parametric Index to perform the update. See Understanding Parametric Index Associations to understand why you might want to perform manual updates on your parametric indexes.

How do I create a data-driven taxonomy?

Use a tree data type. Specify a hierarchy and field delimiter, if they are relevant.
