Enhanced User Interface

The K2 Dashboard user interface has been re-designed to offer improved ease-of-use:

K2 Ticket Server Configuration

You can add, remove, edit, start, and stop K2 Ticket Servers from the K2 Dashboard and configure their Windows, LDAP, UNIX, and user-defined login modules, as well as their persistent store modules. You can manage how Ticket Servers secure K2 Brokers and Servers, and set up Ticket Servers for authenticating to the K2 Dashboard.

K2 Index Server Configuration

You can add, remove, edit, start, and stop K2 Index Servers from the K2 Dashboard and add, assign, close, and cancel their associated workspaces.

K2 Spider Service Configuration

You can view the K2 Spider status, add and remove one K2 Spider Service per host, and start and stop K2 Spider Services from the K2 Dashboard.

License Key Management

The K2 Dashboard displays license key details for a particular host, such as

installed K2 features


K2 features for which you have a trial license


K2 features for which you have a full license


the number of CPUs for which the K2 Broker or Server services are licensed


You can also use the K2 Dashboard to set a new license key or compare license keys.

Index Staging

The Stage_Index user-defined job provides you with an automated process for copying an index from a staging area and using it to replace indexes on production K2 Servers, even if these servers exist on multiple hosts.

Access to the StyleSet Editor Web Application

The K2 Dashboard provides access to the new Web-based StyleSet Editor application, used to create and edit style sets for the File System, HTTP, and ODBC gateways.

HTML Forms-Based Authentication

Authentication forms allow K2 to index content on a protected Web server. HTML forms are defined in the StyleSet Editor; you supply credentials for form fields in the K2 Dashboard indexing job properties Authentication tab. When K2 Spider tries to access a secure repository, it verifies the credentials and either grants or denies access for indexing.

Synchronizing Parametric Data with Associated Collections

You can create a parametric index in the K2 Dashboard and use mkpi to populate it. You can also associate a parametric index with a collection. However, when the associated collection changes, the parametric index data becomes out-of-date. The K2 Dashboard ensures the parametric data stays current with the collection data by prompting you to create a user-defined job.

Adding Topic Sets

You can add topic sets and associate them with collections or Profile Services. (You can use mktopics to populate the topic sets you create in the K2 Dashboard.)

K2 Reporting Enhancements

Two new reports are available:

Top Query Words


Shows the most popular query words entered by search users.

Top Promotions Shown


Shows the most popular promotion presented to end users on results pages. A promotion is a user interface element, such as an advertisement or data sheet, created in the Business Console, configured in the Component Framework, and displayed in the results page when the user enters a particular query. For more information, see the Verity Business Console Guide.

Query Log Enhancements

The K2 Dashboard interface for setting query log criteria has been enhanced. Criteria are now grouped, reducing the amount of required mouse clicks.

Indexing Job Log Enhancements

The indexing job logs have been consolidated into fewer files. The K2 Dashboard interface for viewing K2 Spider Controller and Crawler/Indexer logs has been enhanced, reducing the amount of required mouse clicks.

Access to the Ultra Spider

The K2 Dashboard provides access to the Verity Ultra Spider indexing tool. For information on this application, see the Verity Ultra Spider Administrator Guide.

Knowledge Trees Deprecation

The K2 Dashboard no longer displays or maintains knowledge trees.

Enhanced K2 Dashboard Online Help

The K2 Dashboard provides complete, context-sensitive help that you can search. You can access the help by clicking any help button displayed in the interface. The online help also provides the Library link, which allows you to search the entire Verity documentation set.

The help includes enhanced reference material for the following:

indexing job properties tabs, their K2 Spider job.ini file equivalents, and related indexing procedures


service logs, including query log XML files, and indexing logs


New in the rcadmin Command-Line Tool

You can change a license key assigned to an Administration Server using the licenseset and licenseget commands.


You can attach a topic set to a collection using the topicsetcollattach and topicsetcolldetach commands.
